Sourced directly from certified organic farmers of Uttarakhand, Lakhori Mirch is a unique Himalayan yellow chilli that originated in the village of Lakhora, located on the Garhwal–Kumaon border. Easily recognised by its yellow colour and distinctive wrinkled skin after drying, this chilli is known for its intense heat and compact seed structure. It is found in two forms—small Lakhori Jamri used for flakes, and larger pods used whole or ground into powder.
Traditionally grown and sun-dried, Lakhori Mirch is harvested in autumn and, when dried properly, can be stored for year-round use. Favoured by namkeen makers for its ability to add heat without altering colour, this chilli is also widely used in mountain households as a healthier alternative to red chillies. Highly aromatic and fiery, only small quantities are needed to elevate dishes.
